Report on the Heritage Day walk

Organized by the Holtzer-Horváth Lindberg Foundation, on September 21, 2025, we joined the Cultural Heritage Days with a walk introducing the headquarters of the Jewish Community of Szeged. We were delighted that around 35 people came along on the tour. This historic building, which was inaugurated at the same time as the famous New Synagogue in Szeged (1903), is not normally open to the public, so it is only on these special occasions that it can be shown. In its representative staircase and ceremonial hall, numerous paintings, photographs, and museum objects tell the story of the community’s past, and we walked through the history of the Jews of Szeged along these lines. The community’s rabbi-in-training also briefly joined the tour, presenting the Torah ark and Torah ornaments in the ceremonial hall, and bidding farewell to the visitors by sounding the shofar, which signals the New Year. Afterwards, there was an opportunity to view the community’s rare archive.
