A Book from the Taussig Legacy
Our foundation also supported the publication of a representative album compiled from the guestbooks of a prominent member of the former Jewish community of Szeged.
About the book:
The Artist’s Open Door – The Life and Guestbooks of Ármin Tardos-Taussig (Szeged, 2024)
Published in the spring of 2024 by the Szeged Jewish Community, this richly illustrated album presents a representative selection from the studio guestbooks of Ármin Tardos-Taussig, known as “the graphic artist of Immánuel Löw.” Through the writings, drawings, newspaper clippings, and period photographs left by the guestbook contributors between 1917 and 1935, the reader gains insight into the cultural vibrancy of the era.
As the pages unfold, we encounter previously unseen personal entries by the young university student Attila József and other renowned figures of Hungarian literature, such as Ferenc Móra, Gyula Juhász, as well as those in their circle, including Ferenc Hont, György Buday, and Samu Rapport. Alongside them, we find small sketches and graphics by the Joachim brothers, Imre Góth, and leading figures of the musical and theatrical world of the time. The guestbooks also feature contributions from internationally recognized personalities, such as Albert Einstein, Alfréd Haar, and Miklós Bánffy.
Beyond the personal entries, the book offers a glimpse into the everyday life of Szeged and its Jewish bourgeoisie. Based on a legacy spanning thousands of pages, this carefully curated selection brings to life an extraordinary historical time capsule enriched with captivating stories.
